Christopher Nkunku was spotted training with the Chelsea first team ahead of their trip to Goodison this weekend. The French forward is yet to make his debut since joining from RB Leipzig in the summer for a fee of £52million.

Nkunku, 25, suffered a knee injury in Chelsea's final pre-season game against Borussia Dortmund in Chicago in August. He had impressed during the tour of the United States, scoring three times in five games and displaying a promising link-up with fellow summer signing Nicolas Jackson in attack.

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino had earlier confirmed he wasn't sure if the player would be fit for this weekend but images of him training today has sparked optimism that he could be part of the team on Sunday. Pochettino said when asked about the possibility of the French forward playing this weekend: "Still assessing day by day, see tomorrow. I don't believe that he will be involved but we need to assess day by day. We see also Malo Gusto but apart from that no."

Chelsea have struggled in the absence of the former RB Leipzig star, who was signed to lead the team alongside Nicolas Jackson. They have managed just five wins in their first 15 Premier League matches and are four points off where they were last season.

The Blues travel to Goodison this weekend having been played off the park by Manchester United, losing 2-1 and needing a response against Sean Dyche's Everton who are full of confidence after comprehensively beating Newcastle 3-0 on Thursday night.
