Former Manchester City’s left footed centre-back is not the answer Thomas Tuchel is looking for as they look to bring in defenders this summer.

Chelsea have lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, who have both been pivotal for the Blues, and they now have to bring new signings and hope that they waste little time in adapting to the demands of the Premier League and the club.

Juventus and Dutch defender Matthijs De Ligt is also under consideration as well as long-term target Jules Kounde.

Chelsea are also linked with Raheem Sterling, who is reported to be considering leaving the Premier League champions having seen his playing time and importance to Pep Guardiola reduce down the years.

Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson feels the move for Sterling is reasonable but isn’t sure Nathan Ake is the man to take up the place of Antonio Rudiger.

He told GGRecon: “No disrespect to Aké but I think most people were surprised when he went to Manchester City, certainly for that amount of money.

“Put it this way, he didn’t blow my mind when he was at Bournemouth.

“He’s just ‘OK’. Then we saw the amount of money for him to go to the City and it was like: ‘Where have they seen that?’

“I don’t think he’s a suitable replacement for Rüdiger at all.”

Chelsea finished third in the league table last season and crashed out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage to eventual winners Real Madrid.

They also reached the final of both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup but lost both on penalties to Liverpool at Wembley.
