Chelsea first team coach leaves after disappointing start for Mauricio Pochettino

A Chelsea first team coach has left the club amid a disappointing start to the new season.

The Blues continued their bumpy start with a home defeat to Aston Villa over the weekend, and Mauricio Pochettino’s men have now won just one of their first six games, losing three times. Chelsea spent significantly again over the summer, while also trimming their squad significantly, but they continue to struggle after a disastrous season of last.

Pochettino has struggled to secure results in his early days in charge, and it seems he may now have opted for a change in his coaching staff as he looks to spark a change in approach.

According to The Telegraph, first team coach Bruno Saltor has left the club through the back door, with no club statement confirming his exit. It’s claimed the former Brighton player has seen his contract paid up after it was decided he would leave, though it’s not clear who has made the decision.

Saltor arrived at Stamford Bridge as part of Graham Potter’s staff, and he was placed on paid leave while Frank Lampard took temporary charge. After Pochettino arrived in the summer, it was decided that Saltor would return to his role as a first team coach, but his latest spell has lasted just four months.

Saltor joins Billy Reid and Bjorn Hamberg in leaving the club after being brought in by Potter, while head of goalkeeping Ben Roberts and data analyst Kyle Macauley remain at Stamford Bridge having been brought in by the Englishman.

It will be interesting to see whether Pochettino now adds to his coaching staff as he looks to turn things around at Stamford Bridge.
