Graham Potter will oversee his first transfer window as Chelsea boss in a little under 11 weeks time when the new year comes around. As is often the case when coaches leave one club for another, they are sometimes keen to bring in players they have worked with in the past and who they know for certain will bring something to their new squad.

That could very well be the case at Stamford Bridge and the 47-year old could return to previous club Brighton & Hove Albion to try and snap up some of their top stars. The Blues already brought in Marc Cucurella from the Seagulls before Potter’s arrival and reports are now suggesting that his former teammate Leandro Trossard could be in line to join him.

According to 90min, Potter is keen on reuniting with Leandro Trossard at Chelsea with the Belgian winger currently enjoying a superb run of form on the South Coast that has seen him net five goals in nine Premier League appearances. However, they may be in for stiff competition to land the former Genk star with another ex-Brighton employee also said to be planning a bid. Dan Ashworth, Newcastle United’s sporting director who previously operated in the same role at the AMEX Stadium, is reportedly taking an interest in how contract talks are progressing between Brighton and the player.

The Seagulls signed the player from his native Belgium in 2019 and his current deal is set to expire in the summer, leaving them open to losing the player for free or for a considerably reduced fee in January if they cannot tie him down to a new deal. Trossard has made over 100 appearances for Brighton across all competitions during his time in the Premier League but it is this season where he has really stepped up to become one of the stars of the division. He has also won 21 caps for the Belgian men’s national side and will be hopeful of securing a place at the FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar next month, especially after his blistering league form so far this campaign.
