Chelsea have looked at the possibility of signing Croatian full-back Josip Juranović despite already having Marc Cucurella, Reece James and César Azpilicueta on their books.

The new Blues owner Todd Boehly is determined to bolster the team and they are playing catch up after spending part of last season under sanction and not able to renew players’ contracts.

In trying to bring in fresh faces at the club they have not forgotten about the need to keep the experienced heads, and have reached an agreement to keep captain César Azpilicueta on a new two-year deal.

Chelsea have been working aggressively behind the scenes and are looking at attacking full-back Josip Juranović, who plays for Celtic in Scotland and was one of the best players in the league last season.

He has the ability to be an ideal full-back for Thomas Tuchel, who is looking for young and willing players who are manageable and determined to make a name for themselves.

Manchester United have also been reported to have scouted him, and are interested in bringing him to Old Trafford.

Chelsea’s back line will likely have several new faces in it by the time the window slams shut.

The Blues lost Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger, two players who have been key to their recent success, and have brought in Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly to fill the gap that has been left by their departure.

There is an intense chase for Wesley Fofana who is highly-rated in the Premier League and still has the best years of his career ahead of him.

Leicester have widely hinted that that they will only consider a record deal for a defender, having lost the Ademola Lookman and Kasper Schmeichel.
