Chelsea are targeting Premier League and FA Cup winner Kasper Schmeichel after Kepa left for Real Madrid

Chelsea are considering a move for ex-Manchester City and Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel after Real Madrid confirmed the signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Real Madrid were in need of a new keeper with Thibault Courtois suffering a serious knee injury, so they brought in the 28-year-old Spain international from the Blues on a short-term deal. It remains unclear if there is a clause to sign him on permanently.

Earlier in the summer Chelsea sold Edouard Mendy as his wages were low and he was easily dispensable but with the injury to Thibault Courtois, Real Madrid were willing to take on his wages at least for a year, something Chelsea were also happy to get off the books.

The signing of Robert Sanchez who made his debut against Liverpool on low wages meant Chelsea were covered and made the move happen as quickly as possible.

Now the Guardian is reporting that Schmeichel is now at Nice, moving there from Leicester City last year having won the Premier League and FA Cup with the Foxes could be heading to the Premier League.

The Denmark international made 46 appearances in his first season with Nice, but the report say that the French club are willing to let him go after a mixed campaign in terms of performances.

Chelsea began their Premier League campaign on a promising note with an impressive 1-1 against Liverpool, they will now hope to build on that when they travel to West Ham United next weekend.
