Also watching on nervously will be England manager Gareth Southgate who will be hoping that his star full-back will be back in time for the World Cup which is barely two months away.

The England boss is already without Manchester City’s Kyle Walker who has been forced into a surgery to try and correct a leg injury which has been affecting his his game.

Liverpool’s Trent Trent Alexander-Arnold is also currently nursing an ankle injury even though he is down the pecking order when it comes to the options who would be on the flight to Qatar.

Reece Jame is considered the best full-back in the world at the moment and an injury to him will be a massive blow to both club and country with both leaning heavily on his performance.

On the positive side, Chelsea are at the top of the Champions League group, with back-to-back wins against AC Milan.

They have also won three games on the spin in the Premier League ahead of their visit to Villa Park this weekend.
