Chelsea defender reveals touching Behdad Eghbali message to team after reaching League Cup final

Chelsea have reached a major final for the first time since co-owners Behdad Eghbali and Todd Boehly took over in May 2022.

Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali was in the dressing room at Stamford Bridge to 'congratulate' the players after they reached the League Cup final on Tuesday night. The new owners have made it a point to go into the dressing room after games, and Chilwell says Eghbali was only there to pat them on the back.

He told LondonWorld: "He came in and pretty much just said congratulations to the team. Well done on the performance and well done on the results and personally he said it was good to have me back. He always makes sure he comes to support us win or lose and thankfully it was a win tonight."

The England left-back made a return to the Chelsea starting line-up for the first time in 118 days and he had a hand in the first goal and remained a threat all game as they blew Middlesbrough 6-1 to set up a date with Liverpool at Wembley.

Chilwell admits it's about time they got revenge against Jurgen Klopp's side after losing both the League Cup and FA Cup finals in 2021.

He added: “It’s three finals we’ve lost, so 100 per cent there is unfinished business. I was, literally, five minutes ago talking to Thiago [Silva] in the shower and saying how we’ve got unfinished business at Wembley.

"We’ve both been there three times and lost three times, so, for sure, we want to go and win and, as a group, we need to make sure that we go and really enjoy the experience and soak it in.

"That’s equally important for a group like ours because there’s only a few of us who have won a trophy at Chelsea and it’s a club that demands trophies, so we need to make sure we go to win, but, also, it’s going to be a great experience for a lot of the players and they need to enjoy it as well.”

Chelsea look to have turned the corner winning seven of their last eight games at Stamford Bridge and will now attempt to win their first title under the Blueco ownership.
