Chelsea 'begin fresh talks' over superstar striker as Tottenham 'battle' Aston Villa for free agent deal

Chelsea and Tottenham will be continuing their efforts to strengthen with pre-season training increasing in intensity with Euro 2024 and Copa América having concluded. The international players won’t rejoin their clubs just yet, but many players are already back at base and building their fitness.

The Blues have already seen a number of players arrive and depart so far this summer, with more recruits expected over the coming weeks, while Tottenham have snapped up some quality additions of their own. Here we round up all the latest transfer news surrounding both clubs.

Osimhen latest

Chelsea are said to be beginning new talks with Napoli over the possible signing of superstar striker Victor Osimhen. According to CaughtOffside, Romelu Lukaku could be part of a potential deal, with reports claiming the Belgian wants to join Napoli this summer.

The Blues would still have to stump up a huge amount of money, likely close to £100million to seal a deal, and it remains unclear whether they can manage that withing PSR. But with Osimhen looking likely to leave, Chelsea fans will be pleased to hear reports claiming their club are keeping their hat in the ring.

Napoli boss Antonio Conte has said: “We are talking about Victor as a professional, an excellent, top player. I spoke to him and he knows that absolutely nothing has changed. He belongs to Napoli and he knows that those who belong to Napoli have to work hard and have the right attitude, even if there is this sort of agreement, that we still don’t know how it will end. He’s here with a smile, and what counts at the moment is the training this afternoon and the attitude with me and my colleagues.”

Hermoso chase

Chelsea and Tottenham are being linked with a move for former Atletico Madrid star Mario Hermoso this summer. According to CalcioNapoli24, a number of English and Italian clubs are interested in a deal for the free agent, with Aston Villa also on the list of interested teams.

Hermoso saw his contract with Atletico expire at the end of June, and still only 29 years of age, he is being tipped to move away from Spain. The defender would be a pretty risk free signing this summer, although he would likely demand a very decent wage package given he is available without a fee.

Eze update

Tottenham are still being tipped to make a move for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, although interest from others is likely this summer. Journalist Ben Jacobs told the Last Word on Spurs podcast: “When one club enquires, every club enquires. As soon as the Euros finish we might see some movement on this one.

“You’re right that Manchester City like this player, but Tottenham are there and I think they’re ahead if you like in terms of how concrete they are that he’s someone they wish to move on than Arsenal who have been linked with Eberechi Eze as well.” Eze is now headed back from Euro 2024, although he will be away on holiday first, and so his future is likely to become a big talking point over the coming weeks.
