With the Premier League season just three weeks away, clubs are starting to release their squad numbers.

It’s been a fairly tumultuous year for the Blues, who said goodbye to their long-standing owner Roman Abramovich who left the club at 19 years.

His exit from the club was due to his ties with Vladimir Putin, allowing American billionaire Todd Boehly to take the reins at one of London’s most successful clubs.

This has contributed to a fairly underwhelming transfer window for Chelsea thus far, as the only signing they have made is that of Raheem Sterling, who left Manchester City after seven trophy laden seasons in Manchester.

Here are the confirmed squad numbers for Chelsea in the upcoming season.

When does the Premier League start?

To accommodate for a long mid-season break, due to the World Cup being held in Qatar in November and December, the Premier League is starting a week prior to its usual start time, and will kick off on 5 August 2022, as Arsenal head to Crystal Palace.

It’s currently unconfirmed what number Sterling will wear at Chelsea.

His seemingly favoured number seven that he wore at his previous club is currently worn by N’Golo Kante, with the midfielder unlikely to relinquish his jersey number for Sterling.

Another number that Sterling seems to favour is the number 10, but that is Christian Pulisic’s number, and again, one he is unlikely to give up.

Given that he’s an attacker, and will likely occupy the striker role from time to time, it may well be that Sterling opts to take the number nine shirt, vacated by record signing Romelu Lukaku, who rejoined Inter Milan just a year after signing for Chelsea for a record fee.
