Chelsea 1-0 Newcastle: Player ratings & man of the match as in-form Kai Havertz grabs dramatic winner
Chelsea pipped Newcastle at the death to secure a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea left it late to beat Newcastle 1-0 at Stamford Bridge with in-form Kai Havertz calmly slotting home the winner for the European Champions in the 90th minute.
For much of the game, it looked like the Blues would be frustrated with Newcastle well organised and looking very dangerous on the break.
Chelsea have endured a very difficult week with news of the sanctioning of owner Roman Abramovich but they have continued to keep their eyes on the ball and grind out results.
The winner from Kai Havertz means they have won four consecutive games, and two in the last three days despite the uncertainly hovering around the club.
The defeat was the first Newcastle have suffered this year after a great form from the visitors. They will hope they turn it around against Everton in their next game.
Heroes
N’Golo Kante - The world cup winner was full of running and always in the right place at the right time.
He was the engine of the Chelsea performance and you wonder where this club would be without the French midfielder.
He gives everything whenever he is on pitch and has been a great servant to Chelsea.
Kai Havertz - A solid performance from Chelsea’s ‘Mr Dependable’, and took his goal really well to ensure the Blues took all points on the day.
The German forward is ending the season the way he ended last one, on form and deciding games.
Villains
Hakim Ziyech - This was not his best game and looked to always have the ball into his feet instead of running into space.
He had his manager on his toes all afternoon screaming because he is normally better than he was today.
Romelu Lukau - The Belgian had a difficult afternoon after being introduced in the second half partly because of how organised Newcastle were through out the game. He looks like a man with his confidence shot to pieces at the moment.
1. Edouard Mendy made a brave save in the first half and had a generally quiet game- 5.5
2. Trevoh Chalobah- Looked solid and did his work well without being spectacular-5

3. Antonio Ruediger-As ever the man for the chaos and defended well. Looked to drive his side forward whenever he could-6
