A relieved Thomas Frank sent a light-hearted jibe to Arsenal and Chelsea as Brentford watch the clock count down on Deadline Day with talisman Ivan Toney still on their books. The goalscorer had been linked with a £100 million move away from the club this month.

The England international has shared his affection for the Gunners in the past but pledged his commitment to the Bees earlier this month as he prepared to return from an eight-month suspension for breaches of FA betting rules. Toney then went on to admit he wanted to play for a 'top club' just days after his initial words.

The nervy month for Brentford supporters is set to come to an end and speaking in his press conference today, Frank said: "This will be breaking news, OK - but Ivan will stay. It's gone from 99.9 per cent to 100 per cent staying."

Toney, who has scored a goal in each of his two outings since returning to the side, could still leave the club in the summer. Frank admitted that was a possibility.

The Brentford boss said: "Yes, I think with any player we have a contract in general so at the end of the day, we decide if they leave or not. Of course money talks and we also know that we are a 'selling' club as you could call it - we know that is part of the strategy.

"We want to have young, talented players in, develop them and make them better. Be on a journey with us, improve and hopefully do some fantastic stuff in the league and maybe one day win something. But at the end of the day, after some years if they are good enough they will progress to the next level."

Frank also confirmed that Brentford were 'unlikely to do business' for the remainder of Deadline Day, putting a five per cent chance on any news breaking from the Gtech Community Stadium.
