Gus Poyet puts £100m price tag on 'main' Chelsea man amid Man Utd transfer links

Manchester United have been linked with a sensational transfer for a boyhood Red Devils fan playing for Chelsea.

Chelsea legend Gus Poyet has slapped a £100 million price tag on Blues star Cole Palmer amid recent links to Manchester United, admitting that it is hard to tell how the England international will feel about his future.

The 23-year-old has seen his season ravaged by a groin injury but is now fit again for Liam Rosenior’s side and has started all of the last six league outings. Palmer has five goals and an assist in those matches, including an impressive hat-trick against Wolves, as he looks to get back to his best ahead of the World Cup.

Palmer has been fielded at both left wing, right wing and behind the striker with Rosenior blessed for options in attacking midfield. Enzo Fernandez, Alejandro Garnacho, Pedro Neto and Willian Estevao are all competing for roles.

The Mirror is the latest outlet to carry reports of a potentially head-turning Manchester United transfer swoop for Palmer, claiming that the link has strengthened since the arrival of Rosenior. Palmer followed the Red Devils as a youngster with Rosenior having to speak out and label the star as ‘untouchable’ at the club.

Poyet, who won the FA Cup and UEFA Super Cup with Chelsea, has given his take on Palmer’s future. When tasked with putting a price that Chelsea could consider a sale for by LondonWorld, the former midfielder admitted that at least nine figures would be likely.

Speaking to the site via Gambling.com, who help you find the best casino online for UK players, Poyet said: “I think he’s becoming the main guy at Chelsea. Every Chelsea supporter you talk to is so happy to have him and knows he performs better in a certain position that has been difficult for Liam Rosenior to play him in there.

“The most important for Chelsea is to finish well this season, get Champions League football for sure. In the FA Cup, they have a good draw and can get to the semi-finals. The trophy at Chelsea is always important. You must win something, even if top coaches go one year without winning something, they can be out.

“After what clubs are paying, £100 million is a mark for sure. I don’t know Cole personally. I think it’s important to know him and what he wants. He has the experience at his previous club, now he’s at Chelsea in London in a big position. What else does he want? It depends on him.”
