'I'm Sure': Glenn Hoddle drops verdict on Cole Palmer transfer from Chelsea to Man Utd

Ex Tottenham and Chelsea star Glenn Hoddle believes a big summer transfer move for Cole Palmer could happen.

Chelsea linchpin Cole Palmer continues to be linked with a potential transfer move to boyhood club Manchester United amid a stuttering Premier League campaign at Stamford Bridge.

The England international has scored six goals since the turn of the year but missed a large chunk of the season due to groin problems. When first arriving at Chelsea, Palmer had looked unstoppable but has struggled to rekindle that form ahead of the World Cup this summer.

In recent months, Manchester United have been touted as a potential new destination for Palmer, given the fondness he holds for the club. The Mirror is the latest outlet to carry reports of a potentially head-turning move for Palmer, claiming that the link has strengthened since the arrival of Rosenior.

Now, speaking to Ozoon, ex England boss Glenn Hoddle has given his opinion on the transfer talk. He said: “Cole Palmer is definitely a talent, and I'm a big fan. I know he's had patches and hasn't been consistent since he went to Chelsea. Whether it's off-the-field issues or unhappiness in London, we don't know, only he can answer that.

“Chelsea have a massive squad, so he's rested, played, rested, and brought on. He probably wants to play every game, as players do. If he's a Manchester lad and supposedly a Manchester United fan, I'm sure he'd be very tempted.”

Hoddle - Palmer would face fight to get into Manchester United XI

Hoddle went on to admit that even if Palmer was to make the switch to Old Trafford, he would not necessarily immediately become the star of the show. The 68-year-old believes that the Chelsea man could have his work cut out to get ahead of two Red Devils starts in the starting XI.

He said: “However, with Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes, you can only play so many creative players. Will he get in the team? Most teams, you'd say yes, but Fernandes and Cunha are in good form right now. Yes, Cunha can play further forward, on the left, or on the right, but he likes to roam.

“So, where would you play Cole Palmer? But as I said earlier, Manchester United will have to clear the decks. There are a few aged players they'll probably look to get rid of. So, yes, he'd be a great acquisition, and I would say when you find players of that ability and quality, you'll find a place in the team for them.”
