Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones provided updates on the fitness of key stars after his side played out a 0-0 draw against Stevenage at The Valley on Easter Monday.

Neither Macaulay Gillesphey nor Karoy Anderson were in the matchday squad but Jones confirmed those absences were more to do with fitness than prolonged injury worries.

He said: "Gillesphey was tight, his hamstrings were tight, it was a call we made on it. Anderson is a young kid who played six, seven, eight games on the spin then he travels to America and has to train out there in the heat and travel back. He looked really jaded the other day so we'll freshen him up, give him a couple days off and he'll be back."

The Welshman was also asked about striker Connor Wickham, who has only made one appearance for the club since signing last month, and Tennai Watson, after the full-back limped off against Stevenage.

He said: "Connor is closer than he was the other day so we are hoping we have all these back in or the weekend so we have different options. That's been a frustrating one as we've only seen him for 20 minutes.

"[Watson is] just tight. He gives us everything. We haven't had much cover there with Kayne Ramsay out and so on. It's important now we rest up and we've got a bit of cover there."

Charlton's unbeaten run under Jones continues with the point but it was a frustrating afternoon for the home supporters at The Valley with the match lacking quality from both sides. The Addicks boss was nonetheless pleased with the clean sheet and point, as his side look closer again to avoiding a relegation dogfight.

He said: "Mixed feelings really. There are a lot of positives - clean sheet, another point, another game unbeaten. They gave me everything, showed they were working. Stevenage have kept 19 clean sheets, I think half of those have produced 1-0 wins, it shows how difficult they are to beat and what they can do late on in games when they pretty much play land of the giants, they are very aggressive in that way. I thought we were decent in terms of how we controlled the ball but we need to be better, we needed to show a bit more quality and bravery but that will come."
