Charlton Athletic Player Ratings: 'Top drawer' 9/10 and 'big presence' 8 as Birmingham City beaten
Nathan Jones saw his Charlton Athletic side move nine points clear of the drop zone with victory over Birmingham City.
Charlton Athletic picked up a huge three points in a dominant showing over Birmingham City at The Valley on Saturday, super sub Charlie Kelman the difference maker.

The Addicks ended a run of four games without a win and bounced back from a disappointing home defeat to Wrexham last weekend. Nathan Jones’ side saw plenty of the ball against the Midlands outfit but had to wait until the 74th minute for a breakthrough.
That came via Kelman, who had only just come onto the pitch, with the striker latching onto a long Sonny Carey throw to prod home. Here’s how the Charlton Athletic players rated.
Charlton Athletic player ratings
GK - Will Mannion, 8
Not forced into many saves by Birmingham and was decisive when coming to claim from set plays.
LWB - Luke Chambers, 6
Delivered one very tasty corner in the first half which the Addicks couldn’t quite get on the end of. The home side perhaps offered more threat on the opposite flank.
CB - Amari’i Bell, 7
The least busy of the three centre-backs. Distribution could maybe have been better at times but a solid outing.
CB - Lloyd Jones, 7
His usual self. There when Charlton needed him and not posed too many problems by the Blues and a wily August Priske.
CB - Kayne Ramsay, 8
Was caused problems by Demari Gray and then Ibrahim Osman this afternoon. Ultimately, won those battles and helped his side to a clean sheet.
RWB - Harry Clarke, 9
A really classy showing. Diligent in his work and offered both pace and physicality on the flank. Not sure how he didn’t win a foul on the edge of the box in the 80th minute. Top drawer.
CM - Greg Docherty, 7
Had the vision to play Dykes through the Birmingham City back line with Ryan Allsop well out of his goal but needed to find more ways of unlocking the Blues defensive. Docherty’s most important intervention came when putting his body on the line to block a 65th minute Birmingham shot.
CM - Conor Coventry, 7
Put in the yards in the centre of the park, looking to set the tone for his side during a period without the ball in the second half.
CM - Sonny Carey, 8
Looked to get the ball on the ground and the Addicks moving when the game was bitty in the first half. The home side’s most creative player and launched the long throw that led to the goal. Did look leggy at times in the second half when Birmingham enjoyed their spell with the ball.
ST - Tyreece Campbell, 7
As always, a mixed bag. Really in the thick of it today. Doesn’t look good when strolling back from attacks and inevitably being caught offside but, when he did turn it on, was capable of causing a headache for the opposition. Deserves kudos for a gut busting run in the second half to close down Osman and help Clarke out.
ST - Lyndon Dykes, 8
A big presence up top for Charlton, challenging for every ball booted up in his direction. Won the flick on that eventually dropped to Kelman for the goal. Did hit an awful scuffed shot when attempting to make the most of poor Allsop positioning in the Birmingham goal on a first half break.
Subs - Charlie Kelman (9), Joe Rankin-Costello (6), Miles Leaburn (7), Conor Coady (N/A), Macaulay Gillesphey (N/A).
