Charlton Athletic sent 'big club' message by Preston as Birmingham City confirm exciting transfer stance

It was a quiet week-end of FA Cup action for the two London League One sides with both Charlton Athletic and Leyton Orient still to play their fourth round ties.
The Addicks travel to Preston North End on Tuesday while the O's, who could face Manchester City in the next round, host Championship side Derby County tomorrow.

Charlton Athletic praised by Paul Heckingbottom
Preston North End boss Paul Heckingbottom has been praising Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones ahead of Tuesday's FA Cup clash. The Lilywhites head coach admitted he had been an admirer of the Welshman's work since arriving at The Valley.
Asked about his take on Jones' progress since making the management switch from the Premier League to League One, Heckingbottom told BBC Lancashire: “Yes, it was a tough job. But I thought it was a good job for him. I can see how they're playing now. There are a lot of similarities to Luton. They're a big club in League One... good resources for League One and I know he’ll have been believing, and still believe, that if he gets it right it's a club he can take somewhere. And that's why he’ll have wanted the job.
“I'm glad we're at home. I wanted a home draw in the cup. But they'll not be scared that they're playing away. Their style of play, how they want to play, probably how they're going to set up will be different because they're away from home - and it will suit a lot of their players and their tactics. We have to be wary of that. So, yes, it's going to be a real challenge."

He added: "Looking forward to catching up with him and seeing how he's getting on down there. Without speaking to him since he's been down there, I certainly had a good idea of why he wanted to take that job. I can see what he's trying to do there. And I am under no illusions as to how pumped up he's going to try and get his team for our game.”
FA Cup fourth round draw confirmed
The Addicks and Preston North End face one of the latest fourth round ties in the FA Cup this weekend with the majority of teams already in action and finding out their fate. The draw for the fifth round too place on Sunday evening following Arsenal's defeat to Manchester United.
Should Charlton Athletic defeat their Championship opposition on Tuesday, the London outfit will host League One rivals Wycombe Wanderers at The Valley in the next round. The Chairboys progressed by completing the mini giant-killing of Portsmouth, who are in the division above.
Matt Bloomfield's men recorded a 2-0 win at Adams Park to continue their head turning season. Wycombe sit second in the League One table and are chasing promotion.

Birmingham City turned heads with their record-breaking transfer business last summer and the League One leaders look set to broker some more deals this month with the window open once again.
The Blues boss Chris Davies has confirmed that the club 'absolutely' plan on investing this month with a new centre-back a priority. Birmingham City have allowed Dion Sanderson to leave the club and head for Blackburn Rovers already in January.
Via the Bristol Post, Davies said: “I said to Dion that ultimately he wants more game time and as the season went on he wasn’t going to get that here as one of our first choice centre-backs, so if the right opportunity came up for him to go and play then we would look into that. That’s why he’s gone. Absolutely, that’s something we will need (a new defender).”
