Charlton Athletic linked with £1m swoop

Charlton Athletic are believed to be rivalling League One rivals Barnsley and Bristol Rovers in sharing a transfer interest in Dunfermline Athletic left-back Josh Edwards.

That's according to Scottish outlet the Daily Record, which reports that the Scottish Championship side will look to cash in on the defender before his contract expires next summer. Dunfermline are said to want a hefty six-figure fee for the 23-year-old.

Edwards recently extended his contract at the club and had previously been linked with Lincoln City and Oxford United. The promising player made 42 appearances in all competitions, registering an impressive four goals and nine assists from defence.

Bristol Rovers beaten to transfer by League Two side

Bristol Rovers have been dealt a surprise transfer blow after being beaten by League Two club Port Vale to the signing of Ronan Curtis.

Bristol Live reports that Port Vale offered more than several League One clubs to recruit the 28-year-old following the expiry of his contract at AFC Wimbledon.

Bristol Rovers had held talks with Curtis earlier this month but were not able to sway the player with a reported hesitancy to match the Port Vale offer due to the star's history of knee issues.

Curtis only returned from a long-term knee injury in January when joining AFC Wimbledon on a short-term deal but went on to register five goals and two assists since that point.

Barnsley ‘close’ to managerial appointment

Barnsley are believed to have several managerial candidates in an 'advanced' stage of the recruitment process as the League One club searches for a permanent Neill Collins replacement.

Caretaker boss Martin Devaney was not offered the gig on a full-time basis and it now appears that Cheltenham Town boss Darrell Clarke could be the frontrunner.

GloucestershireLive report that the manager, who couldn't keep Cheltenham away from the League One drop last season, is 'close to agreeing' a deal with Barnsley.
