Charlton Athletic already know next transfer move to replace Birmingham City bound Alfie May
Charlton Athletic are set to make a move for Coventry City striker Matty Godden after allowing League One top scorer Alfie May quit the club after just one year.
It is expected that May will sign for Birmingham City with that transfer reportedly a 'deal done' on Monday. The Blues are believed to have beaten Huddersfield Town to the player's signature.

Charlton boss Nathan Jones had been open to the sale, he told the South London Press: "It’s a very difficult one with Alfie. He is our player and we love Alfie here, he is a fans’ favourite and scores goals for us.
"I don’t just want this to be just about Alfie. What we have to do with decisions on any player is think about what is in the best interests of the club. If keeping Alfie is the best thing for this football club then that is what will happen.
“If for any reason Alfie May leaves this football club then we must have players that will come into the squad that make this football club significantly better. I have no financial pressure, or any pressure from the board or the club in any way to do anything. For what has been rumoured around Alfie, we’re not under any pressure to sell to another rival."

Hide AdThe Welshman hinted at replacements being lined up and now transfer specialist Alan Nixon reports that it is set to be Coventry City man Godden who arrives at The Valley.
Writing on his Patreon, Nixon adds that the Addicks are embroiled in a bidding war with Oxford United, but it is the London club who are set to win.
Godden has a year left on his contract at the Championship club but struggled for game time last season. The 32-year-old managed 35 appearances in the second tier but lost his starting role in February.
The talisman is somewhat of an EFL specialist, having scored goals in all three divisions. He has bagged 28 League One goals, 14 for Peterborough United in the 2018/19 season and another 14 for Coventry the following campaign.
