AI tells Charlton Athletic to sign West Brom duo & back 'invaluable' Nathan Jones if promoted to Championship
Nathan Jones is pushing for promotion to the Championship with his Charlton Athletic side.
Charlton Athletic are pushing for promotion from League One after a superb run of form has turned the London side into not only play-off contenders but challengers for the top two.

The Addicks have lost just one of their last 13 matches, winning 10 of those fixtures. That has raised Nathan Jones’ side to fourth in the League One table, six points clear of seventh-placed Bolton Wanderers and just four points off both Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham.
There are still nine fixtures to be played this season but Jones’ men are certainly on track for a shot at play-off glory, if not automatic promotion. Getting to the Championship has been a goal of Jones’ since arriving at The Valley last season.
Speaking back in May 2024, he said: “We’ll have 46 league games next season and we want to win 46. We will go out to win 46 football games. That probably won’t be possible – it’s never been done before. But that’s what we’ll try and do. If we win the first game, win the second game, don’t win the third game then we’ll still try and win the fourth.
“We are going out to be the best we can. We’re not going out saying: ‘We have got to be promoted next season’. No, it is getting a football club back where it should be.
“We have to make certain decisions so we can build this to be the great football club it once was and still has at its core. Now, if that means we have a successful season and get promotion – brilliant. If we don’t then we have to evaluate why. But, trust me, we have phone calls (with the club’s hierarchy) and we’re not just looking to get out of League One. But we don’t come out shouting and screaming ‘we’re going to get promoted and then in two years we’re going to be Premier League’. We’re not saying that because we know football is very, very difficult and things happen.”
Nathan Jones ‘invaluable’ to Charlton Athletic
With the chance of promotion now becoming somewhat of a reality, LondonWorld asks AI programme ChatGPT if the Addicks are ready and what would need to be done to prepare for the second tier.
The programme believes that Charlton Athletic would have a ‘realistic chance of staying up’ in the Championship should they be promoted. However, this is only if the club signs ‘Championship-quality players in key positions’ this summer.
ChatGPT puts a lot of faith in Nathan Jones and backs the Addicks manager to be the man to oversee a transition up the leagues. The programme said: “His tactical acumen and understanding of how to compete at higher levels could prove invaluable for Charlton. If he can continue to instil discipline and a winning mentality, the team could have a good chance of survival.”
Charlton Athletic told to sign West Brom duo
The AI clearly believes that the transfer window will be vital for Charlton Athletic should promotion be achieved. When pushed to name any potential targets, ChatGPT opts for West Brom midfielder John Swift, who is out of contract at The Hawthorns come the end of the campaign.
Baggies boss Tony Mowbray has confirmed that contract talks have not progressed and ChatGPT says: “In the Championship, teams need players who can unlock defences and create opportunities in tight spaces. A creative midfielder would add a dynamic element to Charlton’s attack.
“John Swift is a proven playmaker in the Championship, and bringing in someone of his calibre would greatly enhance Charlton’s attacking potential.”
Charlton Athletic are also advised to target West Brom man Karlan Grant, who has fallen out of favour under Mowbray. The 27-year-old has bags of experience and ChatGPT says: “To compete in the Championship, Charlton will need wide players who can stretch the play, provide assists, and offer pace on the break. Karlan Grant would be a perfect fit, as he’s a pacey forward with Championship experience and proven goal-scoring ability.”
In other news, this is how much promotion from League One would be worth to Charlton Athletic, Wrexham, Birmingham City and rivals.
