Ten vintage photos of Brentford fans packed in at Stamford Bridge for brilliant away win against Chelsea

An army of Bees fans were at Stamford Bridge to see their side record a memorable 4-1 win against Chelsea.

The win was the perfect result Thomas Frank’s side could have dreamed of, and now they might only need at least one more win from the remaining eight league matches to secure their Premier League status for another season.

It was Chelsea though, who took the lead but Brentford responded almost immediately through the often dependable Vitaly Janelt,  cancelling out Antonio Rudiger’s strike for the Blues.

The goal was a crowning moment that showed what a brilliant footballer he is, a clean strike of the ball that gave the Chelsea goalkeeper little chance.

Vitaly Janelt  then broke clear again minutes later to hammer home the third beyond the hapless Edouard Mendy in post for Chelsea before a late Yoane Wissa  goal wrapped up a brilliant win for the Bees, and a humiliating defeat for the European Champions who will have to quickly move on from this defeat because they have Real Madrid visiting Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

Thomas Frank has had some really memorable moments since becoming manager but mastermining the first Brentford win at Stamford Bridge for the first time since 1939, I suspect will rank high on his achievement.

The win moves Brentford towards Premier League safety with the Bees now 11 points clear of the drop zone. For Chelsea, this was their first defeat in the league in the last seven games and their first home defeat this year.
