Latest news regarding this Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur-linked man ahead of the summer

Reported Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur target Caoimhin Kelleher is being tipped to leave Liverpool this summer by Republic of Ireland boss Stephen Kenny. The 24-year-old is used as back-up at Anfield and may well move on in the next transfer window to become a number one somewhere else.

The Cork-born stopper has been on the books of the Merseyside outfit since joining them back in 2015 as a youngster. Prior to his switch to England, he played for local side Ringmahon Rangers.

Brentford and Spurs are believed to be interested in luring him away from Liverpool following the end of the most recent Premier League season along with fellow top flight outfit Brighton and Hove Albion, as per a report by The Athletic. However, the Bees’ chances of landing him are slim now after they secured the addition of Mark Flekken from Freiburg earlier this week.

Kenny has said, as per BBC Sport: “It looks like he will be on the move this summer, and it can only benefit him because he needs to play games. He has been starved of games this year and that has been a problem for him.

“He is very talented, and it is hard to leave Liverpool, such an iconic club. It is not easy to move, there is a process you go through at a club like that,” he said. The previous season was a success to a degree for him, winning the League Cup and playing in the cup competitions, there were a lot of games.

“They got knocked out early this year so there wasn’t much football for him. I think he is ready to go and play regularly, he certainly needs to play as he is not so young now, he is 24.”

He added: “I think it will happen this summer. It is not right normally to talk about a player moving, but at Liverpool, he is behind one of the best goalkeepers in the world. It is not going to get any easier and you can’t improve when you aren’t playing.”

Spurs will need a new ‘keeper if Hugo Lloris moves on for a new chapter elsewhere. The London club need to sort out their managerial situation first though before they can start plotting targets.
