Winger Sergi Canos has also been struggling with hamstring injuries this season and has missed the last three games and is now in the race against time to return for what is left of the Premier League season.

The Bees have enjoyed a largely successful first season in the Premier League and have recorded some impressive wins along the way, but manager Thomas Frank confirming the latest injury news also added he wanted more from his team against Southampton.

The Brentford manager said: “Both Ethan Pinnock and Sergi are still out but there is a chance they could be back for Everton.

“I think we’ve shown to all the away grounds we’ve been to this season that we try to be brave.

“Sometimes, we are very successful, sometimes we are not for various reasons because we actually play an opponent who also wants to win. That’s how I see it but we will always be there and try to go and get more for our fans.”

Not many gave Brentford a chance to stay up and their manager has proven that their fantastic exploits in the Championship was not a fluke.

There is still a chance that the Bees could still challenge a top half finish but Thomas Frank says he is not getting ahead of himself and will continue to takes it one game at a time.

He added: “The only thing [I think of is] next training, next game. And I think the main bit is we’ve been so good at being extremely focused on the next game and I think that’s what helped us go into that good run of games and results.”
