Brentford youngster Fin Stevens has revealed Swansea City’s style of play is what attracted him to join the Championship side on deadline day.

The right-back was given the green light to link up with the Welsh outfit on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Stevens, 19, slipped a place down the pecking order after the Bees swooped to sign Aaron Hickey from Bologna over the summer.

‘Big attraction’...

He has opened up about his temporary switch to the Swans and has told their official club website:

“When it came to deciding on the move, the way Swansea play football was a big attraction.

“They like to play out from the back. I’m not a massive player, I’m not really physical. My game is to play football on the floor and Swansea was a great fit for that.”

The teenager added:

“When I spoke to Russell that’s exactly what he said to me. We like to play it out from the back, we’re a ball playing side and have most the possession every week, up to 70 per cent or more.

“He thinks I can bring something to the side is that last bit in the final third, hopefully helping us be really clinical and getting that last cross in. I want to be able to show that and prove what I can bring as a player.”

Stevens made his debut off the bench for Swansea on Saturday as they beat London club QPR 1-0 thanks to striker Joel Piroe’s goal.

He has been on the books of Brentford since 2020 having previously risen up through the youth ranks at Arsenal.

The full-back has made 10 appearances for Thomas Frank’s side in all competitions to date.

Next up for him is an away trip to Birmingham City next weekend. Martin’s team like to play an attacking/possession based style of football which is something that made Stevens want to move there.
