Brentford appoint new assistant manager as door opens for Sheffield United

Brentford have appointed Claus Nørgaard as their new assistant boss. The Bees had a vacancy to fill following Brian Riemer’s departure to Anderlecht.

They held talks with Oldham Athletic and Bristol City boss Dean Holden, as per the Daily Mail, but have now turned to someone else. This could open the door for Holden to join Sheffield United as the 43-year-old was also in discussions with the Championship promotion hopefuls over a defensive coach role.

Nørgaard is making the move to the Brentford Community Stadium from the Denmark national team set-up and is expected to link up with the London club over the next couple of days as they prepare for their return to Premier League action later this month.

He also worked under Bees boss Thomas Frank at Brøndby IF and the pair have now reunited. Frank has told the club website:

“I am very pleased that we have brought Claus in to this role. Whenever there is a change in the coaching staff it is a chance to bring in different experiences and knowledge. Claus’ arrival will naturally mean there is a different dynamic and I am sure he will help us progress.

“I have known Claus for a long time. We worked together at the Danish association and also at Brøndby for many years. He will bring a lot of knowledge and coaching skills to the staff and has a personality that will fit well into the group. He will help the Club move forward.”

Nørgaard has also worked at Vejle Boldklub, SønderjyskE Fodbold and Esbjerg fB in the past. Brentford’s first match back after the World Cup break is against Tottenham Hotspur on Boxing Day.
