Turkish giants 'step up' bid to complete Arsenal transfer in January

One Arsenal star is said to be attracting interest ahead of the January transfer window.

Arsenal could be set to lose one of their midfielders in the upcoming transfer window. The Gunners are climbing up the gears again after getting back to winning ways in both the Premier League and Champions League.

Mikel Arteta’s men put three past Nottingham Forest and five past Sporting CP, and it looks as though they have wind back in their sails following a torrid run heading into the international break. The coming weeks will be crucial as Arsenal look to get back in the thick of the Premier League title race.

For many clubs, the January transfer window is a key part of the season, but Arsenal are not likely to be particularly active this time around having spent plenty over the last couple of years. That doesn’t mean there won’t be exits, though, and there are some players who are not getting much play time as things stand.

Jorginho is one of those players, with the Italian having only featured in four Premier League games all season. Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, Ethan Nwaneri and Thomas Partey are all ahead of Jorginho, and that is not likely to change.

According to Sabah in Turkiye, Besiktas are stepping up their efforts to land Jorginho, and they are said to be attempting to convince the midfielder to make the move. Jorginho is currently in the final season of his contract, although there is an option for Arsenal to tack on another year.

Jorginho could bring in a fee in January, though, and the Gunners might be keen on that possibility if they are not going to use the midfielder. But on the other hand, Besiktas are not going to pay big money, and Arteta may see it as a case of Jorginho being expensive to replace in January. The Gunners may prefer to lose the midfielder for free and have his services available for the next six months or so.
