‘Things can happen’ - Arsenal learn Alexander Isak’s transfer stance as Newcastle United striker opens up

Alexander Isak has become a Premier League revelation since joining Newcastle United in August 2022

Alexander Isak has claimed transfer speculation “doesn’t affect” him amid reports linking him with a move to Arsenal.

Talk has intensified about the Swede potentially leaving Newcastle United at the end of the season. Despite boasting the world’s richest owners, FFP/PSR guidelines mean funds have been tight at St James’ Park.

Newcastle suffered an injury crisis midway through the campaign but, like most Premier League clubs, were unable to bolster their ranks in January. CEO Darren Eales hinted at potentially needing to offload star players to create “headroom” in the transfer market.

As for Arsenal, they are understood to have been wowed by Isak since his move to England. The 24-year-old evokes memories of Thierry Henry with his frame, playing style and ability to play up front or on the left.

There are doubts about his fitness, with Isak missing large chunks of both seasons at Newcastle. But, when fit, there is no doubt he remains one of the division’s best strikers with the potential to become even better.

Many Arsenal fans believe signing a top-level finisher would be the final piece of the jigsaw for Mikel Arteta. Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, while talented, have bagged just nine Premier League goals between them this season.

Speaking on international duty, Isak played down a potential move - but did dangle a possible carrot for Gunners chiefs. He said: “It doesn’t affect me that much. It has been talked about many times, in many windows.

“I see it as just such a thing. Everyone knows that summer is coming and, if things show up, things can happen, but I actually haven’t even thought about it.”
