Women’s football shone brightly this summer as Sarina Wiegman’s triumphant Lionesses inspired a whole generation of new fans.
On the back of EURO 2022 fever, grand plans were set up for the opening weekend of the WSL, with the Amex and Stamford Bridge set to host large audiences to the first games of a fresh campaign - but the plans were made null and void as the death of Her Majesty the Queen led to the postponement of all football games.
Now, more than 50,000 tickets have been sold for the Women’s Super League contest between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates - showing that the appetite for the domestic league is very much alive and kicking.
On Saturday at 1.30pm, the WSL attendance record may not just be beaten but absolutely smashed.
