Arsenal currently find themselves sitting sixth in the league with three games in hand compared to their immediate competition in West Ham.

With three games in hand and on the same number of points as their closest rivals, Mikel Arteta will be hopeful that the next couple of Premier League matches will see them jump ahead of both West Ham and Manchester United.

Winning three of their last five games, the most recent with a stunning 95th minute finish by Alexandre Lacazette, it would appear Arsenal are not missing their former captain who is now shining for Barcelona.

With the youngest average age of all the Premier League teams (24.2) and a new captain in the French striker Lacazette, Arsenal will be desperate for the younger and fresher blood to give them that boost in the second half of the season.

Mikel Arteta is looking to have a fruitful summer transfer season and will hope that if his hopes and wishes are realised, Arsenal can also find themselves back in the FA Cup next year, aiming to lift that trophy for a 15th time.

Here is all the latest on Arsenal’s transfer news

Arsenal to offer Saka contract extension

England international Bukayo Saka has scored five goals in his last six Premier League matches and his achievements are set to be rewarded by a contract extension with the Gunners set to reflect his growing importance at the club.

Football.London understands that Saka, who is becoming an embodiment of what Arsenal hopes to be and achieve, will be offered a longer contract that is set to extend beyond 2024 - its current end point.

Coming back to his club after missing the vital penalty at the Euros 2020 last summer, Saka has proved his worth and shown his strength in character in moving past such a low moment.

Speaking about Saka, Arteta has said: “This kid, at 19 years old, has played almost every game in the Premier League.

“He was our Player of the Season, I think he has earned the respect and admiration of everyone at the football club. But not only that, he’s gone to an international stage, he started the European competition with an injury and still he has managed to be in the starting XI.

“He reached the final and couldn’t lift that trophy but I think he has a much bigger trophy than that, and that’s that he really knows that in good and bad moments, everybody at the club, every Arsenal fan and every English fan is right behind him.”

Guendouzi to leave Arsenal permanently

Marseille President Pablo Longoria announced on RMC Sport that Arsenal’s Matteo Guendouzi would be leaving the Gunners and has signed with Marseille on a permanent basis.

The 22-year-old soon found himself out of favour with Arteta’s style and tactics of play and has spent this season on loan with the Ligue 1 side and is now set to become an official player for the side for a reported fee of £9million according to the Mirror.

The young Frenchman was signed by Unai Emery in 2018 for a fee reported to be around £8 million and soon found himself emerging as a prominent figure only for this favour to be soon reversed when Arteta came into the picture.

Prior to joining the southern French side, Guendouzi had been criticised for his poor attitude but the midfielder has since impressed his manager with his maturity and leadership.

Sampaoli has said of his future player: “Aside from his youth, Matteo has a particular energy. He has a desire to win and he’s a natural leader. We imagined that would be the case but that it would happen over time.

“Experience is important for everyone but, for young people, sometimes difficult events are not good experiences. There’s also personal capacity on the mental side. Guendouzi, for example, he’s 22-years-old but acts like he’s 30.

“The most important thing is maturity.”

Arsenal ‘join race’ for Lewandowski

According to Four Four Two, the Gunners are one of a number of big clubs who are hoping to snatch up 2021 Ballon d’Or runner Robert Lewandowski.

The Polish striker’s contract will end at Allianz Arena at the end of next season with several clubs lining up in pursuit and it has since been suggested that Lewandowski said he was ‘open to everything’.

Lewandowski, who has scored 39 goals this season, also got in on the rumour gossip following an interview with Sky Sport Deustchland:

“I am open to everything. I’m quiet. It is important for me to be able to focus on my game, always on what can happen in the last match.

“Everything that remains to be done regarding contracts is a secondary issue and remains in the background.”
