Former Real Madrid man Clarence Seedorf appeared to give his Arsenal praise through gritted teeth on Tuesday night.

Real Madrid legend Clarence Seedorf cut a frustrated figure on the touchlines of the Emirates Stadium after the Galacticos were beaten 3-0 by Arsenal on Tuesday night.

The 49-year-old won the Champions League with Real Madrid in 1998 and was on punditry duty for Prime Video alongside Daniel Sturridge and Cesc Fabregas. Seedorf was quiet as his colleagues analysed the game before being given the chance to share his thoughts by presenter Gabby Logan, who said: “You’re a bit shell-shocked there Clarence? That second half performance from Arsenal?”

Seedorf disagreed with the presenter’s take on his emotions, begrudgingly admitted that Arsenal deserved to beat his former side. He said: “I’m not shocked at all, Arsenal is every time all or nothing. When they start scoring, they don’t stop because they have the quality.

Clarence Seedorf praises Arsenal performance

“The second half, I think they definitely cleared up their minds. They were the better team first half but they had a few errors in some of the build-up moments. Then you see the confidence of Saka. Many times when you come back from injury, the first match is easier. Then after you might have a little bit of trouble when you come back again. I was a little surprised that he would be able to do it but he’s done it.

“He created those moments and it’s deserved. They really, really deserved it. The second half was almost flawless in terms of how they executed the game. And the defence, let’s talk about the team because what they did well was be compact and it was very hard for Real Madrid to make anything happen today.”

Seedorf also spent time at Inter Milan and AC Milan during his career, as well as playing 87 times for the Netherlands. He won the Champions League twice with AC Milan and with Ajax in 1995.

Arsenal make the trip to Bernabeu next week but now have one foot in the Champions League semi final thanks to a brace from Declan Rice and a Mikel Merino goal. A clean sheet against Carlo Ancelotti’s side was also impressive, especially given the recent injury to defensive stalwart Gabriel.

Ex Liverpool and Chelsea star admires Gunners defence

Just as he did at Everton on Saturday, Jakub Kiwior took the place of the Brazilian and partnered William Saliba at centre-back. The Gunners’ defence was praised by former Chelsea and Liverpool man Sturridge.

The ex striker said: “They did very well. They concentrated. Of course there were moments when they were building up and there were little mistakes but they didn’t give up any clear, clear chances.

“The keeper made a couple of saves but they managed the game well. You would’ve anticipated there to be more moments in transition for Madrid, in the second half they stifled those moments. In the first half, they gave Madrid moments but they managed the game well in totality.”

In other news, this is who Arsenal could play in the Champions League semi-final and how a potential path to lifting the trophy looks for Mikel Arteta’s men.
