Pundit compares Arsenal 'faith' to Liverpool and believes Mikel Arteta 'doesn't trust' all his players

The Gunners are competing for this season's Premier League title but Liverpool and Manchester City are holding strong so far.

Chris Sutton has suggested that Mikel Arteta does not trust all of his players in the Arsenal dressing room, which may be playing a part in his reluctance to rotate his squad as they challenge for another Premier League title.

The Gunners continue to chase down leaders Liverpool and reigning champions Manchester City in this nail-biting title race. One slip up from any of the three contenders will blow the competition wide open, so Arsenal need to make sure they are in perfect form and pounce on any mistakes from their rivals.

Arteta has struggled with his fair share of injury blows this season, most notably to the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Takehiro Tomiyasu and summer signing Jurriën Timber, who ruptured his ACL on his Premier League debut. However, the manager has been hesitant to make changes and the figures show how few he has made in comparison to Liverpool and City.

As highlighted by football.london, Arsenal have made 99 changes in 36 games this season, while Man City have made 160 in 39 and Liverpool have made 215 in the same amount of fixtures.

The Gunners were last in action against Porto in the Champions League and Arteta made just one substitution the entire match, swapping out Leandro Trossard for Jorginho. They lost the match 1-0 and failed to register a single shot on target.

Sutton recently weighed in on the matter on the It's All Kicking Off podcast and suggested that Arteta doesn't the same faith in his team that his rivals do in theirs.

"I take your point about the subs and Mikel Arteta not using as many as Manchester City and Liverpool. I suppose with Liverpool, they've had so many injuries anyway, but it comes down to having faith in the squad," he said.

"That probably tells you a fair bit about Mikel Arteta's mindset that he doesn't trust everybody implicitly. Hence why, come the summer, we should probably expect to see him move in the market and try and get his squad strength up."

Arsenal have a big task ahead as they prepare to take on Newcastle United this weekend, followed by meetings with Sheffield United and Brentford before hosting Porto for the second leg of their European clash.
