Arsenal made their best start to a Premier League season in 15 years, beating both north London rivals Tottenham and Liverpool in the last eight days.

Mikel Arteta’s team have shown signs of progress but some voiced concerns over their form against big teams. However, the win against Liverpool has put paid to those criticisms.

They began their campaign with a 2-0 win at Selhurst Park and have already exacted revenge on Brentford who beat them last season.

Patrick Vieira, who was captain of Arsenal’s invincible team and now manager of Crystal Palace says his former side are looking dangerous.

The Eagles boss says Mikel Arteta is profiting from some strong acquisitions in the summer and with their current form, look like contenders to winning the Premier League title.

Vieira said during the Best of Africa awards in London: “When you look at the way they have been playing I think they will be really close to winning the title.

“I think Mikel has made some changes and has brought in some really good players and they play at the moment with a lot of confidence and belief.

“What I will say is that they look like this can be the year for them.”

Mikel Arteta has fine tuned the team with players like Gabriel Martinelli, Thomas Partey and Gabriel Jesus playing their best football.

The nature of the win against Liverpool will delight Arteta as they showed grit, steel and determination having been pegged back twice but showed character to always respond and took all three points.

Manchester City will continue to be favourites for the Premier League title but Arsenal are top of the Premier League table and there is no doubting that they will be title contenders this season.
