Arsenal are now 11 points behind league leaders Liverpool after a defeat to West Ham United.

Arsenal have it all to do in the faltering Premier League title race after they lost against West Ham over the weekend. The Gunners fell to a 1-0 loss thanks to a Jarrod Bowen goal late in the first half.

After Liverpool beat Manchester City 2-0 on Sunday, Arsenal are now 11 points behind, and with just 12 games left to go, it could leave Mikel Arteta’s side with too much to do. They do have a game in hand, however and have the chance to cut at the Reds’ lead next month when they play that fixture.

However, tt doesn’t get any easier this week as they face a midweek game against Nottingham Forest, who sit third in the Premier League table, six points behind the Gunners.

Nottingham Forest injury news

Forest have seen a slight dip in their form recently, losing three of their last four matches in the Premier League. However, it can’t be down to injury problems as they have just one absentee heading into Wednesday’s game.

Goalkeeper Carlos Miguel is out with a hamstring injury that he suffered during Forest’s FA Cup win against Exeter City when they won on penalties earlier in February. But as the back-up, Miguel wouldn’t have been selected against Arsenal anyway.

Arsenal injury news

Meanwhile, injuries have been an issue for Arteta’s side this season, with five players set to miss the game on Wednesday, and one in doubt.

Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus remain out for the rest of the season as they have both undergone surgery earlier in the season. It forced the Arsenal manager to play midfielder Mikel Merino up front against West Ham at the weekend.

Furthermore, defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has also been ruled out until the summer after the club decided that he should undergo a second surgery on his knee this season.

Gabriel Martinelli remains out with a hamstring injury. He is expected to return before the end of the season, but there is no timeline set for the left-winger as of yet.

Bukayo Saka is also going to miss the Forest game as he is dealing with a hamstring injury that he suffered in December. A return in mid-March looks most likely, as Arteta said last week: “It's too early; he's in an early stage of the rehab, so when we get a little bit closer, and he starts to do more demanding stuff and has more load, we will see where he is. There's no setback; he's fine.”

Finally, winger Ethan Nwaneri had to come off as a substitute during the game against West Ham, and he is currently being assessed ahead of the Forest game. He is not expected to miss an extended period of time. Arteta said after the game: “It was just fatigue, I think.”

Arsenal will be without Myles Lewis-Skelly against Forest after he was sent off against West Ham for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
