'No chance' - Liverpool dealt major injury blow ahead of Arsenal and Fulham fixtures

Dominik Szoboszlai has been a revelation for Liverpool since his big-money move from RB Leipzig

Jurgen Klopp has revealed Dominik Szoboszlai will miss Liverpool’s double-header against London opposition with a hamstring injury.

Arsenal provide the first test for the Reds when they travel to the Emirates Stadium this weekend. The Gunners welcome the Premier League leaders to the capital knowing an FA Cup victory could earn them a mental advantage in the title race.

Just days later, Fulham visit Anfield for part one of their two-legged Carabao Cup tie. Marco Silva’s men will be aiming to earn a respectable result on Merseyside before taking them back to Craven Cottage a week later.

But Liverpool must face both London clubs without marquee arrival Szoboszlai. The Hungarian has proven a hit for the Reds this season, emerging as the standout signing from Klopp’s summer rebuild.

Just two goals and three assists does not paint the full picture of how impressive the 23-year-old has been. At RB Leipzig, Szoboszlai was an attacking midfielder or wide player but, under Klopp, he is excelling in the number eight role.

Speaking to reporters ahead of their cup clash with Arsenal, the Liverpool boss confirmed the niggle Szoboszlai picked up in their 4-2 win over Newcastle United will rule him out against both London clubs. Klopp said: “I can confirm it’s not a potential injury - it is an injury. Muscle, hamstring. But now we have to see.

“Dom is very positive and does not have a lot of pain but we have to wait a little bit. So, no chance obviously for Sunday, not for Wednesday. No. And then we will see. After that, hopefully, he might be back but we don’t know.”

“Besides that, nothing else really happened,” said Klopp. “The rest were yesterday available and fully fit, so let’s hope that’s today the same and we will have to make a choice.”
