Meanwhile, Newcastle have been under-par so far this season, and they will be hoping to spark a positive run of results with a statement home win over the Gunners. Here we round up all the early injury news surrounding both teams heading into this one.

Jacob Ramsey - Out

Howe said last week: “Jacob is our only other injury concern, and he'll miss the game. He's suffered from that tackle against Leeds - his ankle swelled up at HT and he had to come off. Unfortunately, I think he'll be missing until the next Int' break, so that's a big blow.”

Yoane Wissa - Out

Howe has confirmed that Wissa will remain out until the break. He said: “He's receiving treatment, and no operation is needed. I think we're looking at the other side of the international break. We hope he can be fit and available for that first game.”

Fabian Schar - Out

Schar has a head injury that will keep him out until after the break.

Piero Hincapie - Out

The defender has picked up a groin injury that will keep him out here. Arteta said this week: “He picked up a little groin injury. We'll have to assess him again in the next few days to see how he goes. There's been a change of load, and he didn't really have a pre-season after the surgery that he had. We'll have to see in the next week or so how he is.”

Martin Odegaard - Doubt

Odegaard has a chance of returning here, with Arteta saying this week: “No, no surgery. He's totally fine. He's already been training, and it will be a matter of days, I think.”

Noni Madueke - Out

Arteta confirmed this week: “It looks he's going to be out for a few weeks. We don't know [how long] yet. We're probably going to have to scan him next week again. He felt something at the beginning of the match, he tried to carry on, and at half-time, he was too sore, so let’s see.”

Kai Havertz - Out

Havertz won’t be returning any time soon, with Arteta saying this week: “With Kai, we know that it will be months with him. I don't know if it can be weeks; you never know... We really miss him. Hopefully, he will be back, and back for the long term as well, so it is very important to look after that knee. So far, he's progressing pretty well.”

Gabriel Jesus - Out

Jesus remains out and will likely remain out until the new year. Arteta said last week: “He had a major surgery - it was going to take him many, many months. After discussing with the medical staff and understanding the schedule, we thought that he could be available between December and January. Hopefully, we did it wrong, and he comes back earlier.”
