Speaking on the Stick To Football podcast, the former Gunners and West Ham striker said that going forward, his former club must be much more ruthless if they are to progress to the next round of the tournament in years to come.

Ex-Arsenal star Ian Wright has called on Arteta to bring in two players this summer.

“I’d love Arsenal to win (the Champions League)”, the 33-time England international said. “If we got there, to the final with (Manchester) City, I’d feel more confident. We’ve got to be more ruthless with the chances. At the moment we’re not taking those chances. If we could take those chances, I’d more confident about going to play these teams because we’re defending a lot better.

Arsenal, however, did not take on Wright’s advice when playing at the Allianz Arena with Arteta speaking after the game of his side’s struggles at the top o the pitch: “We have been the team that has scored more goals in the Premier League. From everywhere, because of the reality is we don't have a striker that is going to score 35 or 40 goals.

“So we have to live with that, we have many other qualities. Today is a day to stick behind the players, because they have given us so much and have taken us on this journey.

Speaking today on his podcast Wrighty’s House, the ex-Gunners star then went on to detail how the Emirates side should spend their money in the upcoming transfer market and has warned the Spanish head coach to eye up a ‘real midfielder’ as well as sorting out the ‘left-back slot’.

“I just feel like we’re inexperienced and we’re just still short a couple of players”, Wright added. "I think he’s got to do something about the left-back slot, about a real midfielder that can pass it forward, who can get forward and hit those shots. We need that X-Factor player. We need somebody who can come in who’s totally different from everything else. Somebody who you can think to yourself at least that he’s that special weapon.”
