Chelsea have already had a £55million bid for Caicedo rebuffed by Brighton, with the club insisting he’s not for sale at any price.

It’s understood that Ecuador international Caicedo would be keen on a move to Emirates Stadium just a week after his former teammate Leandro Trossard arrived in north London.

“He’s a very important player, a strong player, a big player,” said Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi.

“He can become one of the best midfielders in Europe. For me he is now, but in the next two years for sure, because he’s technical but he’s, strong, physical. He’s complete.

“The best solution is he can finish the season with us and in the summer it is better to change teams. If Caicedo continues to play like the last games it is possible he can leave.”

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s side face Manchester City in the FA Cup tonight but will be without Emile Smith Rowe who has been sidelined with a minor thigh injury.
