'Medical will be booked' - Fabrizio Romano issues fresh Arsenal transfer update after 'verbal agreement'
Arsenal are waiting to pull the trigger on Viktor Gyokeres’ medical after agreeing a deal.
Arsenal fans have been given a fresh update over the Viktor Gyokeres situation as the Gunners look to wrap up a deal for the striker. The saga has been ongoing for weeks and weeks, with Andrea Berta struggling to agree a deal with tough Sporting CP chief Federico Varandas.

The Gunners have finally agreed upon a deal, with £55 million to be paid upfront and another £8.6million due in add-ons. The add-ons have been a sticking point, but it does seem as though a compromise has been found between the two clubs.
Sporting will still get their £8.6million, but the structure of the add-ons had to be agreed, and it has been. According to Fabrizio Romano, the medical will take place after the documents are ratified. He posted: “Arsenal and Sporting, checking documents with lawyers for every detail of Viktor Gyökeres deal including specific add-ons worth €10m in total. Medical will be booked right after, it was never gonna be on Wednesday. No issues on that. The verbal agreement, 100% done.”
That should come as no surprise, with Gyokeres having been staying in Mallorca, so it’s going to take a little time for Arsenal and Gyokeres to get their plans in order. It’s unclear whether the striker will travel to North London for his medical or whether he will go straight to Asia to link up with the Gunners for their pre-season tour. One way or another, the striker is likely to meet up with his new teammates East.
Gyokeres has been skipping Sporting training due to feeling aggrieved with his current club over their handling of the transfer. It was reported that the two parties had an agreement over an asking price that Sporting wound up raising this summer. That has led to Gyokeres giving up a personal bonus in a bid to push through a deal, and his agent has also foregone a commission payment from Sporting, though he will get a commission payment from Arsenal as part of the deal.
Speaking over a week ago, Sporting chief Varandas said of the club’s approach: “We’re calm. Everything will be resolved with the closing of the market, a heavy fine, and an apology to the group. If they [interested clubs] don’t want to pay fair market value for Viktor, we are very comfortable with that for the next three years [the length of his contract].”
He added on Gyokeres’ stance: “If the geniuses who are devising this strategy think that this puts pressure on me to facilitate the exit, they are not only completely wrong but are also making the player’s exit even more complicated. No one is above the club’s interests, whoever they may be.”
It now looks as though Gyokeres will be saying goodbye to his current teammates as he prepares to return to England, and while he may have soured his relationship with Sporting fans, he has got his wish in sealing a move to the Emirates Stadium.
