Manchester United have entered the race to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney, according to reports.

Arsenal have been linked with the 28-year-old all season as the man to solve their striker dilemma. Most Gunners fans have called on Mikel Arteta to sign a new No.9, with questions remaining over Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah.

Several Arsenal legends, like iconic goalscorer Ian Wright, have also aired their concern. He said at the back end of last year: “I believe that Arsenal, in what we’re trying to do now, the margins are so small - you cannot afford to miss those chances and not win those games.

“The Toney links don’t go away because you can see that’s probably the last bit in the jigsaw. It’s obvious for everyone to see that this is the last piece. He will do it if it can be done.”

Reports have suggested Brentford would accept north of £70million for Toney, who only returned following an eight-month suspension for breaching betting regulations in January. Arsenal are the club continually linked with the Bees talisman, although there is rumoured interest from Chelsea.

However, Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano has given a fresh update suggesting Man United are interested. Speaking to CaughtOffside, the reporter claimed Toney to Old Trafford could be “one to watch” this summer.

“It’s just one of the options to be considered and discussed internally,” he said. “As I said here multiple times, Man United are still in the early stages of the process to decide which striker they want to sign; experienced or young. Talks are going to take place internally. Toney will be one of the names available on the market so could be one to watch.”
