"For sure" - Second Man Utd player ruled out for the season ahead of Fulham and Arsenal fixtures

Man Utd have been handed a fresh injury blow ahead of games with Fulham and Arsenal next month

Manchester United were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham Hotspur in North London on Sunday afternoon as James Maddison’s first-half goal proved decisive. The Spurs midfielder was quickest to an early rebound as he fired in from close range to help clinch an important three points.

The Red Devils were missing a host of players for the game with Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo, Manuel Ugarte, Toby Collyer, Leny Yoro, Christian Eriksen, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton and Jonny Evans all absent. Up next for the Old Trafford side is games with Everton and Ipswich Town.

Following those fixtures, the Red Devils have back-to-back games against London opposition. Fulham head to Old Trafford in the fifth round of the FA Cup on March 2 before Arsenal make the trip a week later in what will be another tense afternoon as the Gunners battle Liverpool for the Premier League title.

Diallo and Mainoo out of Fulham and Arsenal games

According to Manchester World, Mainoo is set to spend about six weeks out meaning he will not be present against Fulham or Arsenal. Meanwhile, United boss Ruben Amorim has conceded Amad is likely to be out for the season.

Asked which of his injured players might return against Everton, Amorim said: "It is hard to know. Let's wait a few more days. I think Leny and Chris they were sick, so they will recover. Of course Chris has the heart condition, and we have to be really careful with that. It is nothing about the heart, just the heart rate has to be controlled because he has fever. I think we will recover that. The rest we will see. I think Kobbie is out, Amad is out for sure I think until the end of the season. We will see the rest."

Amad is the second United player in a matter of weeks to be ruled out for the season after defender Lisandro Martinez suffered an ACL injury in a 2-0 defeat against Crystal Palace at the start of February. Both players scored in a 2-2 draw with Liverpool as United took points off Arsenal’s title rivals at the beginning of January.

What else was said after Spurs loss?

Reflecting on Spurs’ 1-0 win, Amorim added: "It was the biggest difference of the game, they [Tottenham] scored and we didn't. We had the opportunities to score, then in the first half we pushed a little bit harder. We suffered in some transitions trying to get a result, but in the end they scored and we didn’t. We need to put the ball in the net because we had some chances, we created some chances which is the hardest part. In some games we are there near the box but we don’t create chances. Today we created the chances but we need to score to win games.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou said: “I thought we weren’t too bad. Again, it helps when you can put significant talent on. We’ve been doing it with kids, and they’ve done an unbelievable job for us, but the Premier League is tough, and it’s the fact we could make changes that still allowed us to have the quality and experience out there. I thought the lads handled it well. We can play better, definitely, but there was always going to be that little bit of anxiety and nervousness around. We needed to win today. The players knew that, and they were determined to get the three points.”
