Man City vs Arsenal injury news as 6 ruled out and 2 doubts
All the latest injury news surrounding Arsenal and Manchester City as the two title candidates prepare to face off on Sunday.
Arsenal are back in action as soon as Sunday after their Champions League trip to Bergamo to face Atalanta on Thursday night, and they face Manchester City in one of the biggest games of the season. It’s still far to early for any conclusions to be drawn from this clash between two likely title candidates, but we should get some indication of who the favourite will be.

The Etihad Stadium fixture is an early opportunity for both sides to plant their flag with just two points currently separating them in the Premier League table. As preparations ramp up, we have rounded up the latest injury news surrounding both teams.
Oscar Bobb - Out
Bobb is looking at a 2025 return after an early season leg fracture. Guardiola said at the time: “It was in the training session. Unfortunately, he had a big impact and got injured. He is having surgery. Hopefully, it will go well, and he will be back in 3-4 months.”
Nathan Ake - Out
Ake has a thigh injury that will keep him out until the end of October. “Injured, I think until the next international break,” Guardiola said. “We are unlucky with Nathan - every time he goes [to play for the Netherlands], he comes back injured.”
Kevin De Bruyne - Doubt
De Bruyne picked up an issue against Inter Milan on Thursday night. Guardiola said in his last address: “I will have more info tomorrow. The way [Inter] defend, I was thinking after 35 minutes that I wanted to make this substitution. After the doctor said to me that Kevin was not ready to play but I was ready to make this substitution anyway."
Mikel Merino - Out
Merino is out until some time in October with a shoulder injury. “It’s very unfortunate,” Arteta said. “Yesterday he had a collision and got a shoulder injury. He’s going to be out for a few weeks. It’s really bad luck and we were all very excited. He was looking very good, he landed on the floor, Gabi went on top of him and it looks like he’s got a small fracture probably. He was in so much pain, so we have to wait and see with the staff to do some more tests to have more conclusive answers.”
Takehiro Tomiyasu - Out
Tomiyasu has a knee injury, with Arteta saying back in August: "I think it will take weeks on that one unfortunately. He's going to have to be patient and work through it because I think it's going to take a few weeks."
Martin Odegaard - Out
Odegaard’s ankle injury will keep him out for at least a few weeks. “After everything was scanned, the scan showed he has got some damage, especially on one of the ligaments in the ankle,” said Arteta. “We are going to miss him. I don’t want to [give a timeline] because I am not a doctor but yes, it is something quite significant so we are going to lose him for a while. Hopefully not months, but let’s see.”
Oleksandr Zinchenko - Doubt
It’s not clear when Zinchenko will return from his calf injury, but it’s very unlikely he will be back this weekend.
Kieran Tierney - Out
Tierney is still training alone as he looks to recover from a hamstring issue. Arteta said back in August: "He needs to focus now on recovering in the best possible way. It’s been a tough time for him, with the last injury. We have to try to support him and make sure he comes back fit."
