Brentford are reportedly demanding £80million from Arsenal for talisman Ivan Toney

Arsenal are leading the charge for Brentford talisman Ivan Toney this summer, according to reports.

Talk has intensified regarding the 27-year-old’s future since his return from a ban for breaching betting regulations. Bees boss Thomas Frank claimed last week it is “relatively obvious” Toney will leave the club at the end of the season.

The striker joked about those comments sounding like Frank “didn’t want” him - a claim he denied. That awkward exchange only increased expectations about Toney’s potential exit.

Three goals in four games since his comeback proves Toney has also kept the golden touch in front of goal. He was on target for Brentford in their 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend as they moved six points clear of the relegation zone.

An update from Football Insider has claimed Arsenal are front-runners to sign the England international. The striker conundrum has become a hot topic for the Gunners all season as questions continue to be asked about Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah.

Just four goals in 17 Premier League appearances from Jesus is hardly conducive to a title-winning forward while the jury remains out on Nketiah, with five strikes in 22 games. The report suggests Brentford hope to recoup around £80million - despite Toney having just over a year left on his contract - and are drafting up a shortlist of replacements.

Chelsea have also been linked with a potential move for Toney given their uncertainty up front. Nicolas Jackson has struggled to lead the line, with Cole Palmer deputising in the false nine role, but they trail Arsenal for the Bees’ talisman.
