Liverpool returned to winning ways against Rangers with a change in formation that addressed the recent weakness in defence.

A 2-0 win was enough to remind critics how well Jurgen Klopp’s side can turn things around even if it was just Rangers, and there will be tougher tests awaiting them in the coming weeks.

But the fact heavily criticised Trent Alexander-Arnold carved out a beautiful free kick and the largely subdued Mohamed Salah was back on the scoresheet was encouraging for the Reds.

Their next game is another cracking test against an on form Arsenal side who have just come off a morale boosting win against north London rivals Tottenham over the weekend.

But he is making progress even though he was not seen in training ahead of the game against Rangers.

There are reports he is getting back to the pitch this week but the game against Arsenal might come too soon for him.

Curtis Jones

Another midfielder who was expected to have a significant effect but has been brought down by a tibia injury that has refused to go away.

Klopp said that the midfielder had suffered a slight knock but it’s been almost a month now and there is still no light at the end of the tunnel.

He is now set to miss the game against Arsenal this weekend.

Naby Keita

The Guinean midfielder hasn’t played since the Community Shield win against Manchester City.

It all started with illness and a knee injury and he hasn’t been seen since.

It will take a miracle for him to be part of the travelling squad to London this weekend.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Hasn’t kicked a ball this season and there is still no time frame for his return.

Definitely out of the game against Mikel Arteta’s men.
