Key Sevilla star limps off in training just days before Arsenal Champions League clash

Sevilla have been handed a fresh injury blow ahead of their Champions League clash with Arsenal this week.

Sevilla are sweating over an injury concern ahead of their trip to London to take on Arsenal in the Champions League. The Gunners are now concentrating on matters European after suffering a setback in their Premier League title bid.

Mikel Arteta's were beaten 1-0 by Newcastle United on Saturday, albeit rather controversially, and they have now fallen further behind in the race for top spot. Plenty of time remains, but with the Premier League much more competitive at the top end so far this season, there is some quiet concerns.

As far as the Champions League goes, Arsenal hold the advantage, currently in top spot, one point clear of Lens and - more importantly - four clear of Sevilla in third, the team they beat last time out. As the fixture list flips, Arsenal are now preparing to tace the Europa League champions again this Wednesday night, and they know a win coupled with a Lens win elsewhere will put them through with two games to spare.

That makes this one that much more important, and while Arsenal have plenty of injuries of their own currently, including star striker Gabriel Jesus, Sevilla are sweating over their goalkeeper, Orjan Nyland.

The former Aston Villa stopper bowed out of training early on Monday with a thigh injury, according to Diario AS, and he is a significant concern ahead of Wednesday night's clash in the English capital. Former number one Marko Dmitrovic would be the obvious replacement if Nyland does not make it.

Sevilla have had a difficult season so far, sacking Jose Luis Mendilibar just weeks into the season and just months after he won the Europa League at the end of last season. Former Inter Miami boss Diego Alonso is now in charge, and the Andalusians are as low as 15th in La Liga, most recently scoring late to snatch a draw against strugglers Celta Vigo. Though, if there's one thing we know about Sevilla, it's that they tend to turn it on for European occasions regardless of how their domestic campaign is going.
