Jarrod Bowen has urged West Ham United to maintain their consistency after crushing Freiburg in the Champions League.

A brutal 5-0 rout ensured the Hammers a place in the Europa League quarter-finals. There were a few nerves around the London Stadium pre-game as David Moyes’ side looked to overturn a one-goal deficit from the first leg.

However, the pressure levels cooled on nine minutes when Lucas Paqueta put West Ham in front. Goals from Bowen, Aaron Cresswell and a Mohammed Kudus brace - which included a sensational solo run - completed the demolition.

West Ham are chasing another European crown to sit alongside last season’s Conference League trophy. Speaking to TNT Sports post-match, Irons talisman Bowen ordered his teammates to kick on - while opening up about returning to the England setup.

“We knew, at 1-0 down, we had to take the game to them,” he said. “We knew there would be goals if we fully went for it. You see tonight, it was five but it probably could have been more.

“It’s just what we needed. Playing at home, we needed a reaction and got it. Tonight, we played on the front foot from the start.

“That’s been our biggest problem, not being consistent enough and building on results. The way we finished at Burnley, that’s how we wanted to start this game and maintain it.

“I found out this morning. I hadn’t scored in the Europa League yet so that was more on the front of my mind. To score tonight (and get the call-up), I’m really happy.”
