'I know' - Harry Redknapp makes Mikel Arteta and Arsenal striker transfer claim

Mikel Arteta and Arsenal's recruitment chief have been defended amid a lack of a striker signing.

Arsenal's chances of signing a striker this month are looking increasingly slim amid Financial Fair Play restrictions and a pricey market. The Gunners have found themselves short of goals so far this season, with Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah struggling to provide the finishes required to lead a title race.

Mikel Arteta's men are now five points off top spot, and they will be nervous about potentially falling further behind in a campaign where they were envisaging going one better. Many fans see a new striker signing as the perfect cure for the scoring issues, but signing a new frontman is not as easy as it might seem.

Arsenal spent more than £200million in the summer, leaving them with little room to spend more within Financial Fair Play restrictions, while strikers seldom come cheap. Ivan Toney looks to be far too pricey for this month, while many other options are being priced at above £50million.

Some Gunners fans have been frustrated by the lack of striker signings, but former Tottenham manager Redknapp has defended Arteta and the club's recruitment staff. Speaking to BetVictor in his latest predictions column, he said: "This feels like a massive game for Arsenal.

“There has been a lot of issues in front of goal for this side, I don’t really know what’s going on. I know Mikel Arteta will be trying to get a new forward into the club in the next couple of weeks but believe me, signing any player in January isn’t easy, let alone a forward.”
