'I always wanted' - Gary Neville makes Arsenal title admission amid race with Liverpool and Man City

Gary Neville has been discussing Arsenal's Premier League title chances as the race enters the final three months.

Gary Neville has been discussing the Premier League title race and Arsenal's chances of coming out on top. The Gunners are still applying pressure at the top of the table, needing to see off bottom club Sheffield United on Monday night to move back within two points of Liverpool in top spot and one point of Manchester City in third.

It's set up to be one of the most fascinating title races in recent years, with Mikel Arteta's men setting themselves up to have a solid chance of going one better than last year when they blew a lead to finish second, behind Manchester City.

Arsenal have no such lead this season, but they are in a position where, if they can keep their composure, they can end their title drought, albeit with a little help elsewhere. That makes the race that much more interesting to pundit Neville, who wants to see Arsenal in a situation where they were they needed to keep their composure again after failing to do so last season.

“Liverpool have got momentum and energy – and the Klopp factor," Neville said on TalkSPORT. “Arsenal at this moment are the best-performing team, defensively and they’ve now started to hit their stride in attack. City have got the most experience. All three have got something. This is where we’ll find out about all three of them.

“Can City do it again and get over the line? Can Arsenal do what they didn’t do last year? They completely fell away with ten games to go. This is that moment again. I always wanted to see Arsenal in the same position again, with City, to see how far they’ve developed.

“I think they have developed, with [William] Saliba and [Declan] Rice. They’re better than they were last year and have more power. I can’t wait for these next couple of games because we find out really what these teams are about."

On City, Neville added: “City are the barometer, that’s who they have to try and knock off the perch. That’s what you have to beat them – you can’t say ‘well City might drop points at that ground’ if you’re not beating them yourself. You have to beat them if you’re Liverpool and Arsenal.”
