How many points do Arsenal need to beat Liverpool and Man City to Premier League title?

A look at the number of points Arsenal might need to win the Premier League title this season.

Arsenal's Premier League title challenge is going very well, despite the fact they currently sit in third place. The Gunners are tearing their way through their opponents, scoring 24 goals in their last five Premier League outings.

That puts the Gunners just two points behind leaders Liverpool and one point behind Manchester City in second. Mikel Arteta's men don't have their fate in their own hands currently, but they will have every chance of coming out on top if they can maintain their current level of consistency.

Having said that, the Gunners saw their form drop off significantly in the final 10 games or so of last season, and they know how difficult it can be to maintain top-level performance down the stretch, managing pressure and everything else that goes along with it. In the meantime, we have taken a look at the likely points Arsenal will need to come out on top.

Average Premier League title totals

While the Premier League winners often end up with 90 or more points, the average points total needed to win the Premier League across the last 10 years is actually 83.9. That is calculated by adding one point to the points totals to each of the teams that have finished as runners-up in the last decade.

Current second place team City have 62 points as things stand, and they have 33 points available to them before the end of the season. That means they can get a maximum of 95 points, although they won the title with 89 points last season. Arsenal picked up 84 points last season, coming in at just a touch above the average.

According to the latest predictions from Football Web Pages, the average required this season will be much higher than usual, with Arsenal tipped to finish second with 90 points. Liverpool are, according to the data experts, on course to win the title with 92 points. The Gunners would need 21 points from a possible 33 to get to 92 points, while the prediction suggests they will get 19 points from their last 11 games.
