'We're not anymore' - Thierry Henry issues cutting Arsenal verdict after consecutive defeats
Arsenal’s Premier League title chances have been debated as they continue to struggle to get a hold on their poor form.
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is not convinced by his old club’s Premier League title chances this season. The Gunners have now dropped down to fifth place after a disappointing run of form, now seven points behind leaders Liverpool.
Mikel Arteta’s men have only won one of their last four games across all competitions, and that was a Carabao Cup clash with Championship side Preston North End. The concerning form continued on Wednesday night with a Champions League defeat to Inter Milan, and Arsenal have now been left searching for answers.
There is plenty of football still to play this season, and we are not yet halfway through the Premier League campaign, but Arsenal are walking a tight line even at this early stage, while Liverpool look very strong, and despite a rare slip-up over the weekend, Manchester City also look like stronger candidates.
Chelsea will provide another huge test for Arsenal this weekend, and ahead of that one, Gunners legend Henry has cast doubt over whether his old club can turn things around. Henry told CBS Sports: “Right now they’re not they’re not challenging for the league, obviously as you can see the results are not good enough to be able to be at the top… [there’s] still a long way to go.
“But my issue, and always has been away from home I don’t think it was good enough. But we were getting away with it for a very long time, now we’re not any more. That’s what I’m saying, let’s see what’s going to happen against Chelsea. I don’t know what we’re going to do, I’ll be honest with you. I actually don’t know how we’re going to go.
“I know today we were 1-0 down and we had to attack and Inter gave them the ball. I just don’t know how we’re going to play away from home. I think it will be extremely difficult. Why? Because you have too many teams to catch. One team can have a problem, but one or two - we’re going with Liverpool and Man City - I don’t see two teams collapsing. That’s my issue.”
While there will be plenty of eyes on Arsenal this weekend, Chelsea will be looking to make a statement of their own as they look to plant their top four flag while also pushing to see if they can sneak into the title race in Enzo Maresca’s first season in charge.
