The new Premier League season is just around the corner, and we are now entering the business end of pre-season. While teams prepare for the last of their pre-season friendlies, we are now likely to see a rush for new signings as managers look to strengthen their squads ahead of the big kick off.

The summer transfer window does not close until the end of August, but clubs ideally want to get their squads locked in before the start of the new campaign. Here we run you through all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the top-flight clubs.

De Ligt latest

Manchester United are still said to be pushing to land Bayern Munich stars Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. The pair are reportedly available this summer, but Bayern say De Ligt, in particular, will have the freedom to decide his fate.

In the meantime, Fabrizio Romano has said on X: “Manchester United are prepared to return in talks with Bayern for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui! Agreement until June 2029 plus option already done with both players days ago, now working on club side. Players’ camp, confident as they are only waiting for United.”

Phillips race

Manchester City star Kalvin Phillips is looking for a new club this summer having spent the second half of last season out on loan with West Ham United. After a disappointing loan spell with the Hammers, interest in Phillips has been a little slow, especially with City needing to make back a sizable chunk of cash on their £50million investment.

According to Football Insider, while Aston Villa have expressed an interest, it is Everton who are the most likely to get a deal done this summer. The Toffees are looking to replace Amadou Onana, who joined Aston Villa, and Phillips could be the man to fill that void in the holding midfield spot.

Slot on Liverpool transfer hopes

Arne Slot has been speaking about Liverpool’s slow start to the summer transfer window, admitting it will be tough to improve on his current deal. He told reporters: “I am focused on the tour, how we played, what we need to improve and what we did well. Like I said, the bar is really high for new signings because we have so many good players.

"So it is not so easy to first find a player to meet those standards and then [the question is] is he available? Then we have to find an agreement with them, so it is not always easy to find a player who can help us but [sporting director] Richard [Hughes] is working hard on it and let's see what comes from this.

"My main focus, as I said when I started, was working with the team and preparing them in the best possible way for the first Premier League game and of course for these games as well and apart from that he is working on things and he keeps me updated every time but my main focus is the team over here."
